Kristen Anderson is a seasoned public servant and proven leader with more than three decades of experience across government, nonprofit, and association sectors. Known for her steady leadership, practical problem-solving, and people-first approach, Kristen has built a career focused on making organizations work better—and making government work for the people it serves. Most recently, Kristen served as Chief Deputy Treasurer for Lancaster County, where she managed a team of 40 across three offices and helped oversee a $7.3 million annual budget. In that role, she led efforts to modernize government operations, secure major financial contracts, improve workplace culture, and increase taxpayer efficiency. Her leadership on national digital payments initiatives helped position Lancaster County as a model for forward-thinking, fiscally responsible government. After earning a degree in Political Science from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, Kristen chose to reverse the brain drain and make Lincoln, Nebraska, her home—because she believes strong communities are built by people who show up, get involved, and invest locally. Kristen’s first job in Lincoln was working for U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel, where she learned how to help Nebraskans navigate the federal government and access the services and resources they needed. That experience shaped her belief that government should be responsive, accessible, and focused on solving real problems—not creating new ones.
Kristen later worked as a REALTOR®, building trust through clear communication, attention to detail, and strong client advocacy. She balanced complex transactions, strict deadlines, and regulatory requirements—all while staying deeply involved in the community and serving on multiple boards of directors. She went on to become Governmental Affairs Director for the Nebraska REALTORS® Association, representing more than 4,000 members statewide. In that role, she brought together diverse perspectives, strengthened grassroots engagement, and earned national recognition for effective advocacy and leadership.
Kristen also served as Development Director for CASA for Lancaster County, where she strengthened long-term financial stability, expanded donor engagement, and increased community support for an organization dedicated to protecting vulnerable children. She later led statewide public health initiatives through the Nebraska Pharmacists Association and Nebraska MEDS, managing grant funding, building strong coalitions, and delivering measurable results for communities across Nebraska.
Kristen is married to Eric Anderson, a former Lincoln Southeast Knight and right tackle for the University of Nebraska National Championship football teams from 1994–1997. Eric is currently Vice President at Constructors, Inc., part of NEBCO. Together, Kristen and Eric are passionate advocates for animal welfare and regularly open their home to senior rescue dogs, giving them a safe and loving place to spend their golden years. Their household currently includes three senior dogs and a cat—proof that big hearts often come with fur.
Deeply committed to civic engagement, Kristen has served as Vice President of the League of Women Voters and strongly believes in informed voters, fair elections, and responsive government. She is also an apprentice Pilates instructor, currently working toward her comprehensive teacher certification—reflecting her belief in lifelong learning, discipline, and caring for both physical and mental well-being.
Kristen is running for office to bring experience, professionalism, and common sense back to government—and to deliver thoughtful, practical leadership that puts people first.
